endodontists
Dental pulp experts
Endodontists are dentists who specialize in treating the interior of teeth—the pulp, nerves, and root canals.
When a tooth's inner tissue becomes infected or damaged, an endodontist performs root canal therapy to save it.
They complete additional training beyond dental school to focus on diagnosing tooth pain and performing procedures inside the tooth structure.
