GPs

Primary care providers

GPs is the plural of GP, an abbreviation for general practitioner—a doctor who treats common conditions and refers patients to specialists when needed.

The term is standard in British English and other Commonwealth countries: I made an appointment with one of the GPs at the local surgery.

Americans more often say primary care physician or family doctor.
