Ellipticals are exercise machines that simulate walking or running while minimizing impact on joints.

The user stands on pedals that move in an oval (elliptical) path, often with arm handles for upper-body engagement: I spent thirty minutes on the elliptical at the gym.

Also called elliptical trainers or cross-trainers.
