staff lines
Notation's horizontal rulers
The five horizontal lines on which musical notation is written.
Notes sit on or between these lines to indicate pitch, with higher positions representing higher notes.
Together the staff lines form a staff (or stave), the framework for written music: The melody climbs up the staff lines to a high C.
