ledger line
Note's extra perch
A ledger line is a short horizontal line added above or below a musical staff to extend its range, allowing notation of pitches too high or low for the five standard lines: Middle C sits on a ledger line between the treble and bass clefs.
Multiple ledger lines stack when needed for extreme pitches.
