egg cell
Fertilization's receiving partner
An egg cell is the female reproductive cell—the gamete that, when fertilized by sperm, develops into a new organism.
In humans and other mammals, egg cells are produced in the ovaries.
The term is more technical than simply egg, which in everyday speech usually means the shelled product of birds: The doctor retrieved several egg cells for IVF.
