ear-tag
Cattle ranch marker
An ear-tag is a small plastic or metal marker clipped through an animal's ear for identification, common in livestock management: Each calf gets an ear-tag at birth.
As a verb, to ear-tag is to attach such a marker: We ear-tagged the new heifers this morning.
