drop-bear

Fictional falling marsupial

A drop-bear is a fictional creature from Australian folklore—supposedly a large, carnivorous koala that drops from trees onto unsuspecting victims below.

The concept exists almost entirely as a joke Australians play on tourists: Watch out for drop-bears when you walk through the bush.

The warning is delivered with straight-faced seriousness, testing the visitor's gullibility.
