Tasmanian devil
Australian island predator
A Tasmanian devil is a carnivorous marsupial native to the Australian island of Tasmania—stocky, black-furred, with powerful jaws and a fierce temperament.
Despite their small size (comparable to a small dog), they're known for aggressive feeding behavior and unsettling screeches.
The name comes from early European settlers who found the nocturnal creatures' sounds demonic.
They are now endangered due to a contagious facial tumor disease.
