draughtboard
British checkers grid
A draughtboard is the British spelling of what Americans call a checkerboard—a square board divided into 64 alternating light and dark squares, used for playing draughts (checkers) or chess.
The pattern itself, with its regular grid of contrasting colors, has become iconic and appears in textiles, flooring, and graphic design.
The old pub had a draughtboard pattern on its tile floor.
