downcut
Canyon-carving water action
Downcut describes a cutting action that moves material downward, opposite of upcut.
In woodworking, a downcut router bit or saw blade pushes chips and fibers down into the workpiece, producing a clean top surface: Use a downcut bit for a smooth edge on laminate.
In geology, a river downcutting erodes its bed deeper into rock over time.
