upcut
Blade lifts chips
Upcut describes a cutting action where the blade or bit moves upward through the material.
In woodworking, an upcut router bit pulls chips up and out of the cut, clearing debris efficiently but potentially splintering the top surface.
The opposite is downcut, which pushes material down for cleaner top edges.
Upcut can also mean to vomit—cutting upward from the stomach.
