double clutch
Manual shifting method
Double clutch is a driving technique where you press the clutch twice during a single gear shift—once to move into neutral, then again after matching engine speed to engage the new gear.
This was essential for older vehicles without synchronized transmissions: You had to double clutch every downshift in that old truck.
The term now sometimes describes any deliberate, two-stage action, especially in basketball where a player pumps the ball twice before shooting.
