paddle shift
Manual gear trigger
Paddle shift refers to a gear-changing mechanism in vehicles where small levers mounted behind the steering wheel allow the driver to shift gears without removing hands from the wheel.
One paddle upshifts, the other downshifts.
Originally from Formula 1 racing, paddle shifters now appear in many sports cars and vehicles with automatic transmissions that offer manual override: I used the paddle shift to downshift before the curve.
