dog-ears
Folded page markers
Dog-ears are the turned-down corners of book pages, used as makeshift bookmarks.
The folded triangles resemble a dog's floppy ears.
To dog-ear a page is to crease its corner this way: She dog-eared the recipe she wanted to try.
Dog-eared books show heavy use or careless handling, and the term extends to anything worn or shabby from overuse.
