dodgems

Fairground bumping ride

Dodgems is the British term for bumper cars—the amusement park ride where small electric vehicles are driven around an enclosed arena, deliberately crashing into one another: We spent half our tickets on the dodgems.

The name comes from the futile attempt to dodge collisions.

Americans say bumper cars.
