dislocated
Joint forced apart
Dislocated describes something forced out of its normal position.
A dislocated shoulder or hip has been displaced from its joint socket—painful and requiring medical attention to reset.
The word extends to anything thrown out of proper arrangement: dislocated plans, a dislocated economy, lives dislocated by war.
The sense is of violent or unwelcome displacement rather than gentle movement.
