shoulder dislocation
Arm socket separation
A shoulder dislocation occurs when the upper arm bone pops out of the socket in the shoulder blade.
The shoulder is the body's most mobile joint and therefore its most frequently dislocated.
Most dislocations are anterior—the ball slips forward and down.
Symptoms include intense pain, visible deformity, and inability to move the arm.
Treatment involves reduction (putting the bone back), followed by immobilization and physical therapy.
