deist

Reason-based theist

A deist believes in a creator god who set the universe in motion but does not intervene in human affairs—no miracles, no answered prayers, no divine revelation.

The position was influential among Enlightenment thinkers and several American founders.

Deism contrasts with theism, which holds that God remains actively involved in the world.
