debossed

Sunken surface design

Debossed describes a design pressed into a surface so that it sits below the surrounding material—the opposite of embossed.

Book covers, leather goods, and stationery often feature debossed lettering or patterns: The company logo was debossed into the leather wallet.

The effect creates a subtle, tactile impression rather than a raised one.
