crossbolt
Horizontal locking bar
A crossbolt is a locking mechanism that slides horizontally through a door or gun frame to secure it.
In doors and safes, crossbolts extend into the frame for added security beyond the primary lock.
In firearms, particularly shotguns and rifles, a crossbolt safety is a button that slides side to side to engage or disengage the trigger: Push the crossbolt to the left to fire.
