law clerk
Judicial research assistant
A law clerk is an assistant to a judge, typically a recent law school graduate who researches legal issues, drafts opinions, and helps manage the court's caseload.
Clerking for a prestigious judge—especially on an appeals court or the Supreme Court—is a career-launching credential: She clerked for Justice Ginsburg.
In some countries, the term refers more broadly to any legal assistant.
