bellman

Hotel baggage handler

A bellman is a hotel employee who carries luggage and assists guests—also called a bellhop or porter.

The term comes from the bell at the front desk that summons them.

Historically, a bellman was a town crier or night watchman who rang a bell while making announcements: The bellman called the hour.
