crenelated
With defensive notches
Crenelated describes something having a series of regular notches or indentations along its edge, like the battlements of a medieval castle.
Those alternating high and low sections allowed defenders to shoot through gaps while taking cover behind the raised portions.
The word applies to architecture that mimics this pattern: a crenelated roofline, crenelated towers.
