counterrotating

Turning against each other

Counterrotating describes two things rotating in opposite directions, typically on the same axis or in close proximity.

The term appears most often in engineering and physics: counterrotating propellers on aircraft reduce torque, counterrotating turbines increase efficiency.

The counterrotating blades canceled out the gyroscopic effect.
