cork cambium
Outer bark producer
Cork cambium is a layer of tissue in woody plants that produces cork on its outer surface and a thin layer of cells on its inner surface.
Located beneath the bark, it replaces the epidermis as the plant ages and thickens, forming a protective outer covering.
Also called phellogen.
