ground meristem
Primary growth zone
Ground meristem is plant tissue that develops into the ground tissue system—the bulk of a plant's body excluding its outer covering and vascular bundles.
It produces cells for storage, photosynthesis, and structural support.
Along with protoderm and procambium, it is one of three primary meristems arising from the apical meristem in growing root and shoot tips.
