conservation movement
Crusade for ecosystems
The conservation movement is the broad effort to protect natural resources and wilderness from depletion or destruction.
Emerging in the late 19th century as industrialization threatened forests, wildlife, and waterways, it encompasses government policies, nonprofit organizations, and individual activism aimed at preserving land, species, and ecosystems: The conservation movement led to the creation of national parks.
The term sometimes distinguishes resource management from the more preservation-focused environmental movement.
