comet tail
Glowing ice trail
A comet tail is the luminous stream of gas and dust that extends from a comet's nucleus when heated by the sun, always pointing away from the sun regardless of the comet's direction of travel.
Figuratively, anything that trails behind in a similar elongated fashion: a comet tail of sparks from the firework, Her scarf flew behind her like a comet tail.
