debris trail
Path of wreckage
A debris trail is the scattered path of material left behind after destruction or disintegration.
The term appears most often in discussions of tornadoes, where wreckage marks the storm's path across the landscape, or in aerospace contexts describing fragments from a spacecraft breakup: Investigators followed the debris trail for miles.
Any catastrophic event that scatters material can leave one: The explosion left a debris trail across three city blocks.
