codpieces
Renaissance crotch armor
A codpiece is a pouch or flap covering the male genitals, attached to the front of men's breeches.
Prominent in 15th- and 16th-century European fashion, codpieces evolved from practical garment closures into exaggerated, padded displays of masculinity.
The word survives mainly in historical costume discussions and as a comic image of male vanity: His ego needs its own codpiece.
