fig leaves
Garden of concealment
Fig leaves are the foliage of the fig tree, famously worn by Adam and Eve in Genesis to cover their nakedness after eating the forbidden fruit.
The phrase now means any token gesture meant to conceal something embarrassing or improper: The policy was just a fig leaf for discrimination.
A fig leaf provides minimal, often transparent cover.
