chastity belts
Medieval fidelity devices
Chastity belts are locking garments designed to prevent sexual intercourse, supposedly worn by women in medieval times to ensure fidelity while husbands were away.
Historical evidence for actual medieval use is thin—most surviving examples are Victorian reproductions or fakes.
The term now appears mostly in jokes about jealous husbands or as a metaphor for excessive sexual restriction: Her father's rules were like a chastity belt.
