coastal raid
Beach assault operation
A coastal raid is a military attack launched from the sea against targets on shore, typically brief and intended to damage, seize supplies, or gather intelligence rather than hold territory.
Viking raids on monasteries and pirate attacks on port towns are classic examples.
The term also applies to modern amphibious operations: The commandos conducted a coastal raid on the enemy's radar installation.
