clam-shells
Beach treasure halves
Clam-shells are the hinged, two-part shells of clams, which open and close along a single seam.
The term extends to any container or device that opens the same way: a clam-shell phone flips open, clam-shell packaging splits into two halves, and a clam-shell grill presses food between heated plates.
The takeout came in a styrofoam clam-shell.
