circuit rider
Itinerant frontier minister
A circuit rider is a clergyman who travels a regular route to preach at multiple churches or communities, especially in areas too sparsely populated to support a resident minister.
The term comes from American frontier history, when Methodist preachers on horseback served scattered settlements: The circuit rider visited our town once a month.
By extension, any professional who travels a regular territory: a circuit rider for the public defender's office.
