camp meeting
Tent-based worship gathering
A camp meeting is an outdoor religious gathering, typically lasting several days, where attendees camp on the grounds.
The tradition emerged in American frontier Protestantism during the early 1800s, featuring revival preaching, hymn singing, and emotional worship.
Some continue today as annual events: The Methodist camp meeting draws families from across the region every August.
