chicken pox
Childhood spotty illness
Chicken pox is a contagious viral disease, typically of childhood, that produces an itchy rash of fluid-filled blisters across the body.
The blisters crust over after a few days and eventually heal, though scratching can leave scars.
Most people get chicken pox once and develop lifelong immunity: I had chicken pox in second grade.
The same virus can reactivate later in life as shingles.
Also spelled chickenpox.
