canal system
Interconnected water routes
A canal system is a network of artificial waterways built for transportation, irrigation, or drainage.
The term applies both to human engineering—the Erie Canal system transformed commerce in early America—and to biological structures, particularly the water vascular system of echinoderms like starfish, which circulates fluid through internal canals.
