camera body
Sensor's protective shell
A camera body is the main housing of a camera, excluding detachable components like lenses, flashes, and grips.
It contains the sensor or film chamber, shutter mechanism, and controls.
Photographers often discuss bodies and lenses as separate investments: I'm keeping my lenses but upgrading the body.
The term is most common with interchangeable-lens systems.
