butene

Gaseous unsaturated hydrocarbon

Butene is a hydrocarbon gas with four carbon atoms and one double bond, making it an alkene.

Four structural variations (isomers) exist: 1-butene, 2-butene (in cis and trans forms), and isobutene.

Butene is used industrially to produce plastics, synthetic rubber, and gasoline additives.

Also called butylene.
