burial masks
Tomb face coverings
Burial masks are coverings placed over the faces of the dead before interment, found across many ancient cultures.
The most famous example is Tutankhamun's golden death mask.
These objects served religious purposes—protecting the deceased, preserving their identity for the afterlife, or providing a idealized face for eternity.
Materials ranged from gold and jade to painted wood and plaster.
