breeze-block

Hollow building block

A breeze-block is a lightweight building block made from cement mixed with cinders or ash—breeze being an old term for such residue.

The blocks are cheaper and easier to handle than solid concrete.

Primarily British; Americans say cinder block.

The garden wall was made of breeze-blocks.
