cinderblock

Concrete building block

A cinderblock is a hollow rectangular building block made from concrete and coal cinders or ash.

Cinderblocks are inexpensive and widely used in construction for walls, foundations, and utilitarian structures.

The term often applies loosely to any concrete masonry unit: a cinderblock wall, cinderblock apartments.

Also spelled as two words: cinder block.
