bogeys

One stroke over

Bogeys is the plural of bogey, which has several meanings.

In golf, a bogey is a score of one stroke over par on a hole: He finished with three bogeys and two birdies.

A bogey is also an unidentified aircraft, especially a potentially hostile one on radar.

In British usage, a bogey can be a piece of dried nasal mucus, or a frightening specter—the bogeyman.

To bogey a hole in golf is to score one over par on it.
