Fatal error display
Bluescreen refers to the blue background used in film and video production that allows editors to replace it with other imagery—a technique called chroma key compositing: They filmed the actors against a bluescreen, then added the spaceship digitally.
In computing, bluescreen (or blue screen) is shorthand for the "blue screen of death," the error display indicating a critical Windows system crash: My laptop bluescreened in the middle of my presentation.
