helplessness
Inability to act
Helplessness is the state of being unable to act effectively or protect oneself.
It may be situational—the helplessness of watching someone you love suffer—or a deeper psychological condition.
Learned helplessness describes giving up after repeated failures, even when action might succeed.
The word carries connotations of vulnerability and dependence: She hated the helplessness of being bedridden.
