blue checkmarks
Social media verified
Blue checkmarks are verification badges on social media platforms, originally indicating that an account's identity had been confirmed as authentic—typically for public figures, celebrities, and journalists.
On Twitter/X, blue checkmarks shifted from markers of verified identity to indicators of paid subscription, diluting their original meaning.
The symbol has become shorthand for perceived elitism or self-importance: Of course a blue checkmark would say that.
