burner accounts

Burner accounts are secondary social media or email accounts created for anonymity, temporary use, or activities someone doesn't want tied to their main identity.

The term borrows from burner phones—cheap prepaid devices discarded after use.

People use burner accounts to avoid harassment, speak freely, lurk without following, or troll without consequences: I made a burner account to check on my ex's posts.
