plebs

Ordinary folk, dismissively

Plebs is a casual, mildly dismissive term for ordinary people—those without special status, wealth, or sophistication.

Originally the common citizens of ancient Rome (as opposed to patricians), it now functions as humorous slang for the masses: I'm not waiting in line with the plebs.

The singular pleb appears in British slang as a mild insult for someone unsophisticated.
